Privacy Policy

This privacy policy only applies to The Textmapping Project and this web site. It does not apply to other sites to which we link.

We do not use cookies.

We do use "mobile code" on this site (sometimes referred to as "active content"). Specifically, we use JavaScript and Java - but we use very little of it and we use it only to do things that make the site more useful to you. No information is collected and no cookies are sent to your computer. Here is what our code does:

• It creates an email link enabling you to easily share specific pages with your colleagues. The code adds the URL of the page in question to your email. You will see it in the body of your message, which means that you can edit or delete it.
• It creates a way for us to know which page you are referring to when you email us a "Yes" or "No" answer to the question: "Did you find this information useful?" • When you print a page from our site, our code adds the URL of the page you are printing. This makes it easy for you, or for someone else to whom you provide the print, to clearly see where to go on the web site to find the latest version of the printed page.
• It draws a highlighting box around certain content on a page when you click on a link elsewhere on the page. This calls your attention to the highlighted information.
• It provides dates, such as the date a page was last updated or the current date.

The CERT Center at Carnegie Mellon University is a reliable source of technical information about security and privacy. We do use IP addresses to help understand how people are using our site. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information; they provide aggregate information such as how many people may have visited a certain page on our site.

We keep a mailing list. We keep that mailing list confidential.

• If you wish to maintain copyright [http://www.textmapping.org/copyright.html] protection for content that you submit to us for publication on this web site, we will need to provide a proper copyright notice that includes the date of your copyright, your name, and your email address. The simple act of providing this notice makes public information about you that you might consider private.
• We will keep all information about you (other than copyright information, as described above) private and confidential. We will not sell, share, or rent this information. We may, from time to time, use this information to contact you - although this will happen infrequently - or to respond to questions or comments that you send us, or to correspond with you if you collaborate [http://www.textmapping.org/collaborate.html] with us.

If we find that we need to change our privacy policy:

• We will post those changes here on this page.
• If we think that it makes sense to do so, we will notify you by email about the changes.
• Until we receive your written permission, we will limit our use of your private information to meet the standard set in the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
